The Benefits of Twinning

Clemence started out visiting us from Bohars as a youngster and has found longer-term benefits.  David Dunning takes up the story:

“Clement came to Tarporley on his first exchange as a 12 year old with his older brother. He couldn’t wait to use his pocket money on the fruit machines at Alton Towers and spent it all, ammassing about 20 cheap lighters. On his next visit 2 years later the money all went in Liverpool football club’s shop.

I had got to know his parents quite well, and when I told them what was hapenning, they simply said that he would learn. Well, he did, got good school results, and was studying a chemistry-based subject at university.

However, when he needed a placement for 10 weeks, he couldn’t find one in France.  So he used the confidence he had got from Twinning, and found a 10 week placement working in the chemistry laboratory in Liverpool University, and has landed on his feet getting offers to stay long term in luxury appartments where Liverpool footballers live and, more to the point, getting job offers with multi-national companies.

I feel sure this is just the beginning, but what a start Twinning gave him.”

Visit to Bohars This May – Your Invitation

Over the Bank Holiday at the beginning of May this year a group from Tarporley and nearby villages will travel to France to visit our twin town of Bohars in Brittany.  Our French “twins” provide accommodation and organise events from the Saturday evening through to the Monday morning.
Would you like to join us?  If so please contact David Dunning on 01829 781426 or email daviddunning53@googlemail.com
The Twinning Association covers Tarporley and all the villages in the surrounding area; generally the same as the “Tarporley Talk” distribution area.

Young Tarporleans Visit Bohars

At the end of August 12 teenagers from Tarporley, plus 2 supervisors, travelled to Bohars for a week of activities and cultural exchanges. They stayed with local families and the program included a visit to Ménez-Meur nature reserve, wakeboarding in Saint-Renan, bowling, climbing and zip lining; and swimming in Bertheaume Relecq-Kerhuon.

Carnival 2015

Carnival Stand

This year we had a stand at the carnival and it was a great success with our combined selling of delicious cakes and telling people about the Twinning Association.  We hope to get a few new members as a result.

We also took part in the parade; on food this time.  maybe next year someone can loan us a Citroen 2CV?
